How a Simple Painted Rock Can Create Smiles, Spark Connections, and Travel Across the Country

At Diamond Lure Campground & RV Resort, we’re always looking for new ways to bring smiles, spark creativity, and build a sense of community. That’s why we’re proud to be part of a growing movement that’s making its way across campgrounds and communities nationwide: painted rock hunting—and more specifically, the amazing Facebook group RVing Rocks!

What began as a fun family camping activity has grown into something truly heartwarming. With over 32,000 members and counting, RVing Rocks! is about more than just art or travel—it’s about connection. Members paint small rocks with bright colors, funny designs, or encouraging messages and then hide them for others to find. These painted treasures show up in campgrounds (like ours!), rest stops, shops, and even on porches—bringing unexpected joy to whoever discovers them.

The idea is simple, yet powerful: create something kind, hide it somewhere, and trust that it will make someone’s day. Some folks keep the rocks they find. Others take them on the road and re-hide them at their next destination. Some leave a little note or hashtag on the back to track where their rock ends up. It’s a traveling chain of happiness—perfectly suited for RVers and campers who love a good adventure.

Here at Diamond Lure, we invite our guests—especially the little ones and young at heart—to join in! Whether you bring your own painted rocks or discover one during your stay, you're part of something bigger: a shared journey of kindness. Our staff even joins in the fun, hiding a few of our own creations around the park to keep the hunt going.

Want to join the movement? Follow RVing Rocks! on Facebook to share photos, see where rocks travel, and connect with other happy campers across the country.

So the next time you’re walking one of our trails or heading down to the lake, keep your eyes peeled—you just might find a painted rock waiting to brighten your day. And if you feel inspired, paint one of your own and keep the good vibes rolling.

Happy hunting. Happy campers. Happy people.

Tucked along our quiet, shaded walking paths grows one of the Southeast’s largest colonies of Southern Nodding Trillium (Trillium rugelii)—literally thousands of plants that transform the forest floor into a constellation of creamy‑white blossoms.

When it comes to spending time under the stars, campers generally fall into two camps (pun intended): RVers and tent campers. Both come with their own perks, quirks, and reasons to fall in love with the camping lifestyle.
